Managing Director, Portfolio Manager

K.C. Nelson is a portfolio manager of the Driehaus long/short credit and event driven strategies. As portfolio manager of the Driehaus Active Income Fund (LCMAX), the Driehaus Select Credit Fund (DRSLX), and the Driehaus Event Driven Fund (DEVDX) he is responsible for implementing a multistrategy approach to the credit markets with an emphasis on achieving absolute returns with limited volatility. Mr. Nelson has been quoted in numerous financial publications, including The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg, and has appeared as a guest contributor on CNBC. In addition to his role as portfolio manager, Mr. Nelson serves on the firm’s management committee.

Prior to joining Driehaus Capital Management in 2009, Mr. Nelson was a senior portfolio manager at Lotsoff Capital Management. While at Lotsoff, he managed a credit arbitrage hedge fund and a mutual fund. Mr. Nelson has also held assistant portfolio manager and analyst positions at Akela Capital, Andersen Corporate Finance LLC and J.C. Bradford & Co. He received his B.A. in economics from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, where he was a Keller Scholar.

Michael Buck (MB)

Assistant Portfolio Manager

Michael Buck is the assistant portfolio manager for the Micro Cap Growth and Small Cap Growth strategies. In his role as assistant portfolio manager he is responsible for providing depth of leadership to the research team and identifying appropriate investment ideas relevant to the strategies. Additionally, Mr. Buck acts as a senior analyst focusing on U.S. micro and small cap stocks within the consumer discretionary, consumer staples and financials sectors.

Mr. Buck began his career at Deloitte Consulting, LLC as a business analyst until he joined Driehaus Capital Management in 2002. He received his B.A. and B.M. in economics and cello performance from Northwestern University in 2000.

Howard Schwab

Lead Portfolio Manager

Howard Schwab is the lead portfolio manager for the Emerging Markets Growth strategy and a portfolio manager for the Emerging Markets Small Cap Growth strategy. In his role as lead portfolio manager, he has final responsibility for the strategy’s portfolio construction, risk management and buy/sell decisions. In his role as portfolio manager, he is responsible for idea generation, portfolio construction, security selection and investment research. He is also involved in analyzing macro-level trends and associated market risks. Mr. Schwab has been quoted in numerous financial outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, Morningstar.com and Smart Money. He has also appeared as a guest contributor on Bloomberg TV.

Mr. Schwab joined Driehaus Capital Management in 2001. During his tenure with Driehaus, in addition to the responsibilities referenced above, Mr. Schwab was also the co-portfolio manager for the Driehaus Global Growth strategy from 2008 through 2010, and co-portfolio manager for the Driehaus International Small Cap Growth strategy from 2002 through 2014. He received his B.A. in economics from Denison University in 2001.



Yoav Sharon (YS)

Assistant Portfolio Manager

Yoav Sharon is an assistant portfolio manager for the Driehaus Event Driven strategy. He is responsible for idea generation, portfolio construction, security selection and investment research. Additionally, he is a senior options analyst on the research and risk management team. He also supports the investment teams by monitoring the options market and sharing information relevant to each strategy’s respective portfolio manager. Mr. Sharon joined Driehaus Capital Management in 2012.

Prior to joining Driehaus, Mr. Sharon worked at Peak6 Investments, LLC as a senior analyst and trader from 2010 to 2012. From 2005 to 2008, he served as a managing member of a firm he helped found, Raya Trading LLC. From 2002 to 2004, he held positions of increasing responsibility at STR Trading Partners LLC, leaving that firm with a title of senior trader.

Mr. Sharon earned his B.A. from Northwestern in 2003 and MBA in finance, international business, and management and strategy from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, which he earned in 2010.

Richard Thies (RT)

Portfolio Manager

Richard Thies is a portfolio manager for the Driehaus Emerging Markets Growth, Driehaus Emerging Markets Small Cap Growth and the Driehaus Frontier Markets strategies. In this role, he is responsible for idea generation, portfolio construction, security selection and investment research. Additionally, Mr. Thies provides comprehensive macroeconomic analysis to the firm’s invest­ment management and research department, incorporating data releases, market expectations and government actions into forecasts for currencies, interest rates, sectors and mar­ket movements. Also, at the request of portfolio managers and analysts, he provides in-depth analysis of specific events and potential scenarios at the region, country and sector levels.

Mr. Thies began his career at the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group as a consultant for the gender entrepreneurship markets group in 2005. In 2008, Mr. Thies worked for Opportunity International as a proposal writer. He then worked as an associate international economist for The Northern Trust in 2009. He joined Driehaus Capital Management as a macro analyst in 2011. He received his Bachelor of Arts in international studies from Emory University in 2005 and his Master of Arts degree focused in international political economy from the University of Chicago in 2007.
